Recommended Hook and Keeper for Enclosed Trailer Doors

Updated 10/12/2026 | Published 10/10/2026

Question:

I have a 1988 Circle J 2 horse straight load. There are two doors on each side, one at manger level, the other, lower, to the tack area. The front of the trailer is rounded. What holdback should I get to keep the tack door open against the rounded front? Happy to send photos if you need to picture it. Thanks!

Thanks for the information Nancy. To add a door holder to your 1988 Circle J 2 horse trailer, I recommend the Buyers Products Hook and Keeper item # BP64FR. It is made of zinc plated aluminum for durability and corrosion resistance.

The Hook and Keeper item # BP64FR includes a 4" hook and a spring loaded latch mechanism that locks the door in an open position to prevent accidental closing or swinging.

Please note that the Hook and Keeper item # BP64FR does not come with mounting hardware. You'll be able to source them at a local hardware store after you determine if you have steel or wood framing and the correct length based on the thickness of the door and walls. The mounting holes in the item # BP64FR brackets are designed for 1/4" fasteners.

You will also want to use some non-sag sealant on the hardware like # 344270341437-1 since this is an exterior application.

What kind of horses do you have? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.
