Why Won’t My Monaco RV Ignition Turn Off When Connected to My Jeep Cherokee?

Published 10/07/2026

Question:

RV ignition will not turn off when installing demco 7 blade to 6 round to my Jeep Cherokee. All lights work but only way to turn off the engine is to disconnect cord from Monaco. Any thoughts?

Hello Gregory,

Thanks for writing in.

That definitely sounds like an electrical backfeed between the Jeep and the Monaco. The fact that the Monaco's engine shuts off as soon as you disconnect the cord is a really good clue.

Since you are using the Demco 7-Wire to 6-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord # DM9523054, I would start by checking how the 6-way socket on the Jeep is wired. You will want to verify each terminal by function rather than relying on wire color, paying particular attention to the 12V auxiliary circuit. If that circuit is connected incorrectly or tied into the wrong circuit on the Jeep, it can allow power to feed back through # DM9523054 and keep the Monaco's ignition circuit powered after you turn the key off.

I would not continue using it this way until the source of that backfeed is found. What flat tow wiring are you using?
