Should I Choose the 13.5K Furrion Chill Cube for Maximum Cooling

Updated 10/12/2026 | Published 10/07/2026

Question:

We camp in the South all summer, and our current 13.5K air conditioner struggles during the afternoon. Our trailer has ceiling ducts. Should I get the new variable-speed 13.5K Cube, or is there a better option for maximum cooling?

Hey Marcus! For maximum cooling, I would choose the standard 18K Chill Cube instead of the 13.5K # FR639YV or # FR739YV. Variable speed improves how the system operates, but it doesn't have the same impact you'll get from a higher capacity. For your ducted trailer, you can choose from the following:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR39TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR99TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - White # FR69TD (if you have a furnace)

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD (if you have a furnace)

All of these are complete setups with the air distribution box and remote. If you have a furnace and want it to all run on one system, you need the option with the wall thermostat. You're still getting all of the advantages of the variable speed system but with a higher capacity to keep up with that heat.

What kind of trailer do you have and where are you camping down South?

Thanks! We have a 2021 Grand Design Imagine and mostly camp in Florida and Georgia. Will the 18K work with our existing ceiling ducts, or would we need to make modifications for the larger AC?

@Marcus the 18K Chill Cube will work with your existing ductwork, so you won't need to make modifications just because you're upgrading to a higher capacity AC. The new air distribution box connects to your existing duct system, allowing you to take advantage of the extra cooling capacity without making changes to your existing setup.
