Replacement RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector for a Expired RVCOLP-2 Detector

Updated 10/06/2026 | Published 10/03/2026

Question:

To whom it may concern I have an RV Montana 3791RD which has a CO and gas detector that has reached its life expectancy. Model RVCOLP-2, RV Safe RV CO AND PROPANE GAS ALARM. I believe I have found the replacement on your web site. First question, could you verify the model I listed is in fact the same you have in stock just to be on the safe side, secondly if the detector has a five year life expectancy how can I be certain that the one I buy from Etrailer has five years left in it when on these detectors it states as on the one I’m replacing “REPLACE BY / REMPLACER: FEB. 2026”. These seem to have a time/date stamp on them. Therefore if I were to purchase one from Etrailer the Time/date stamp should read “ replace by “month” 2031. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your patience and my ignorance in understanding the time date issue. Best Regards

Welcome back Don. The RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector item # RS54FR is the correct replacement for the Model RVCOLP-2 RV Safe RV CO AND PROPANE GAS ALARM. We also have it in white item # RS34FR.

The Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector item # RS54FR you receive will be a new one with a 5-year lifespan that has 2031 on it. You won't get one like the product pictures dated for 2025 or 2026 that'll need to be replaced sooner. We sell a bunch of these so our stock is constantly being rotated out for the last detectors.

Where in your Keystone Montana 3791RD is the detector located and what color is it? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

I purchased this detector last year and it was easy to install and has worked great since I installed it.

I just replaced my detector with this same model and it was easy to install and passed my test using a propane torch in the open camper. The date stamp is close enough to present but you could assume that it may have sat in a warehouse for 4-8 weeks so simply note the 5-year date on the safety sticker that comes with the unit.
