Question:

can you put a ramp spring for a 7foot wide trailer on a 6foot wide trailer? would you recommend going to a 2 spring system?

Hi Bob!

It is indeed possible to use something like the Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 7' Wide Enclosed Trailer - Dual Spring - 160-lb Capacity # M346FR with a 6 foot wide trailer, but it will take some customization. The bar will need to be cut down quite a bit as it measures 81" wide. That means potentially 21" will need to be cut off the bar, and I doubt there will be enough room for both springs to still fit.

If it were me, I would use the Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 6-1/2' Wide Enclosed Trailer - Single Spring - 150-lb Capacity # M326FR instead. With this only having a single spring, cutting it down would be a lot easier and there would be less of an issues with that spring not having enough room. It still has 150 pounds of capacity as well, so you wouldn't be losing anything by going with it. I think this is the better choice for a 6 foot wide trailer.

What are you using your trailer to carry?
