Options For Mounting A Spare Tire Under The Tongue Of A Trailer

Updated 11/21/2025 | Published 11/19/2025

Question:

I want to move my camper’s spare tire to the tongue of the trailer, mounted horizontally beneath the frame. I found a solution on an old post on a camper forum, with a link to your site p, and a component manufactured by Lippert. It apparently doesn’t exist anymore. I can send a picture of it if someone can accept an attachment. I definitely want the spare to mount on the tongue rather than under the main frame, and I don’t want it to be vertical. Do you have anything that would do the job? Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff!

I know the part you are looking for. It was called the Lippert Spare Tire Winch, and unfortunately, they did discontinue it earlier this year. You may be able to find someone that still has stock, but I can't say where exactly that would be.

If you are unable to find it anywhere, I think one of the options I have listed below might be of interest to you.

Lippert RV Spare Tire Mount with Winch - 71" Overall Width # LC159041
Redline Spare Tire Carrier - Horse Trailer # 413200

The Lippert option would need to be modified to work and it is expensive, but I think it could be done. The Redline will also take some custom mounting to work, but it is a lot less expensive. I tend to recommend the Redline for people that want to mount spare tires in interesting ways and it would probably be the way I would go. It would be more difficult to actually lift the tire up to it, but I think it could be done. Sorry I don't have a better option for you.

What kind of camper are you wanting this for?

Thanks Lazer. I have a 21’ Escape fiberglass camper. I’ll have a look at the products you’ve suggested. Jeff
