Question:
Hello, I am looking into purchasing a 6x10 EZ hauler all aluminum single axle enclosed trailer . The trailer axle is a 3.5K Leaf Spring idler axle with a 4 inch drop. It appears that the trailer axle does have the 4 bolt brake flange present. I had the manufacturer send me a picture of axle. I would like to add trailer brakes to the trailer. Can you please help me figure out which trailer brakes set up/parts list I would need to make this happen. I also understand I would need to add in a 7 way plug and some wiring. I have a picture of the brake flange if need be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

Hey Joseph, since we know your trailer has a 3,500 lb axle we know exactly what it would take to install brakes on the trailer. First you'd want a hub. For that the most common solution is the hub part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This fits 3,500 EZ lube spindles and has the very common 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for wheel attachment. If instead you have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd want the part # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K.
Then for brake assemblies you'd want the self adjusting assembly kit part numbers # AKEBRK-35-SA.
To add a 7-way to the trailer then the kit you'd want is the part # e99011 which mounts a junction box on the trailer frame and from there you would run wire to the brakes and the rest of the trailer lights. For the brakes be sure to use 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1.

I waited to post my review after using my boat trailer a few times. For the record, I’m a guy that’s very attention to detail oriented. I made sure to take my time during installation, following all install steps and setting preload. Those that are using these hubs for marine applications may want to consider replacing the double seals that come with it to triple seal. After recent inspection I noticed water in the new bearings. I plan to change out soon.
