Replacement 5 on 4-1/2 Hubs for Utility Trailer With #84 Spindles

Updated 08/28/2026 | Published 08/21/2026

Question:

I want to replace my utility trailer hubs what are 5x4.33 bolt centers with a 5x4.5 bolt center to get modern wheel size. I am sure these are 84 spindles as they have the matching diameters for the inner and outer bearings. I measured the spindle section lengths, and they are approx 1 inner, 1 taper, 1 outer, and 3.125-3.250 to the threads. Do you have hub options to fit this spindle?

Hey Dave! Assuming those are #84 spindles we do have replacements available. For an idler hub you can use the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K and for a hub and drum assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. Both have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and use # L68149 inner (1.378" inner diameter) and # L44649 outer (1.063" inner diameter) bearings.

What do you typically haul in your utility trailer?

Hi Dave, I purchased the Hub Assembly for my boat trailer a few years ago and it worked very nicely. I haven't had any issues with it since the purchase and it was easy to install

@BrettT thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear the hub has held up well for you and made for an easy swap.
