Is 3,500 lb etrailer Electric Trailer Jack Enough for 6,000 lb Trailer

Published 08/14/2026

Question:

Before I order, my trailer weighs right around 6,000 lbs loaded. Does that mean I need a jack rated for 6,000 lbs or is this 3,500 lb e72QV enough?

Hi Nolan! You don't need a 6,000 lb jack just because your trailer weighs 6,000 lbs. The etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e72QV is lifting the tongue of the trailer, not the entire trailer weight. The 3,500 lb capacity is more than enough for your loaded tongue weight.

If you don't know your tongue weight, this would actually be a good reason to consider the # e28KV as well since it includes a tongue weight scale. This is especially helpful for loading so you can make sure you stay in that 10-15% range.

What trailer do you have?
