Receiver Hitch for 2019 Kia Niro PHEV

Updated 08/11/2026 | Published 08/06/2026

Question:

Hi, I’m looking for a hitch receiver for my 2019 Kia Niro PHEV. My vehicle is a plug-in hybrid. I see that the Curt III receiver is recommended. I just want to confirm that this fits the PHEV - not just the EV. Thank you, Kim

Hey Kim!

No, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12171 will not fit your 2019 Kia Niro PHEV. This model is only confirmed to fit the standard gas/hybrid Niro, but not the PHEV. Unfortunately, there is not a custom fit trailer hitch for your PHEV Niro, so in order to tow or haul with your Niro, you will need to measure for a universal hitch on your vehicle, and then have it welded on.

Your best option would be a universal weld-on hitch. You'll need to measure the width of the frame on your Niro along with the amount of drop needed for the receiver to clear the rear bumper. Once you have those measurements, you can choose the appropriate universal hitch:

3" Drop - # 15901
9" Drop - # C47CR
10.865" Drop - # 15902
11-1/2" Drop - # 15903
18" Drop - # C99CR

Since these universal hitches are rated considerably higher than your Niro, the hitch's listed capacity does not increase the vehicle's towing or tongue-weight capacity. I recommend checking your owner's manual for the capacities and limitations specific to your 2019 Niro PHEV.

These hitches also require welding and fabrication, so I recommend having the installation performed by a qualified professional. I've included a link below to our installer locator, where you can enter your ZIP code to find installers in your area that we've worked with in the past.

What are you wanting to tow with your Niro? Are you planning a trip, or just getting the vehicle ready for whenever you need it?

This is helpful, thank you! I just need it for a hitch-mounted bicycle carrier. No towing.

@Kim Perfect, once you know your drop, that will definitely get you taken care of! What kind of bikes are you carry? I use my hitch to carry e-bikes
