Will the Trailer Hitch Rust and Will it Hit the Exahust on a 2008 Subaru Outback
Published 06/04/2008 >
Question:
Is the same exact hitch used on 2005-2008 model Subaru Outbacks? Or is the 2008 model something new? Ive heard these hitches hit the exhaust, they rust, etc. Why am I hearing these things?

The same hitches are offered for the 2005 - 2008 model year Subaru Outback wagons. Hitches are made out of steel and constantly exposed to the elements so may eventually rust. Each manufacturer we offer coats the hitches with a paint that is will prevent and ward off rust. If hitches are damaged or scratched and the metal is exposed than it can rust. Sliding a bike rack or cargo carrier in and out of the hitch will scratch away the paint inside the hitch, but a hitch cover will keep the inside from corroding to a point where it is not usable.
The hitches fit on the vehicle very close to the exhaust but should not hit it or rattle against it. You may need to flip or adjust and exhaust hanger, but this is easy to do and will be outlined in the instructions.
