Best Rear Suspension Upgrade For 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Double Cab With 1.5" Lift

Updated 08/05/2026 | Published 08/01/2026

Question:

Looking for recommendations on bump stops. I have a 2017 Tundra TRD Pro Doublecab, 6.5 bed, 5.7L with a 1.5 inch lift in the back from a +3 shackle. I dont off-road...all street and highway miles. Occasionally maybe 15 of miles have a load in the bed and short runs towing a boat and trailer that weighs between 6,400-7,000 pounds with nearly 1,000 pound tongue weight. The trailer produces a lot of squat that I would like to eliminate but not have to much affect on daily driving when not loaded. Thanks for your help. John

Hey John, thanks for reaching out. For your setup, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS48DR. With a trailer in the 6,400 to 7,000 lb range and nearly 1,000 lbs of tongue weight, they'll do an excellent job reducing squat and improving stability without making the truck ride harsh when it's unloaded. They also come with spacers, so they will work on lifted trucks.

The nice thing about the SumoSprings is that they're progressive. Under normal driving, they have very little effect on ride quality. As the load increases, they compress and provide more support, helping keep the truck level, reducing body roll, and improving control. For a truck that's driven empty most of the time but tows a heavy trailer on occasion, they're one of my favorite suspension upgrades.

What else fills the bed on boat days? Coolers, tackle, camping gear, or tools?
