Is There a Way to Make Loading/Unloading Viking Solutions Portable Hoist Easier

Updated 07/15/2026 | Published 07/14/2026

Question:

Regarding the 310-VLV001 lift I recently purchased, unfortunately the lift weighs more than the item Im trying to lift and place/remove from my Nissan Rogue SUV- meaning my back is negatively affected big time. Do you know of any ways-light weight ways-available to make placing the lift into and then out of my car easier than my doing so? I tend to a cemetery plot by cutting the grass and watering such. Lifting the hose reel into and out of my car became too much of a hassel, thus making your lift a hopefully reasonable solution to my situation, especially since during the summer I water the plot several times a week. The lift, by the way, does reduce my back burden in the placing and then removing the hose reel the lift itself is the problem. Any help/advice you provide will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Robert, this might be a silly sounding recommendation but the only solution I could think of to help with loading and unloading the Viking Portable Hoist part # 310-VLV001 would be...a second one. But this would only be super helpful if you were always loading and unloading it at same place. Other than that I can't really think of a great way to make loading this in and out easier. It's supposed to only weigh 20 lbs but it is it pretty awkward to handle?

Thanks, Jameson, for responding! It weighs MORE than 20#, and is awkward to handle! Do you think light weight ramps might help?

@RobertM When we weighed it here it looks like it weighed 28 lbs so yeah it does weigh a bit more and is definitely awkward! Light weight ramps could help but you would end up dragging it up the ramps which might scuff it up a bit. If that's okay with you about how long of a ramp are you thinking?

@JamesonC Thanks once again for replying. Again-the lift itself is the problem. I'm researching ramps at present. Obviously, the ramps MUST be lightweight and hopefully foldable-AND--AFFORDABLE!

@BobM I really wish we had something that covered all of that but I don't see anything super ideal.
