Availability of Inverter Style AC System For Motorhome Without Air Distribution Box

Updated 06/27/2026 | Published 06/21/2026

Question:

I am interested in an inverter style rooftop air conditioner for my 2012 Tiffin Phaeton 36QSH. It has a ducted air distribution system. I do not want to cut a hole in the ceiling in the interior of my motorhome. Is there an inverter style system that will work with this constraint?

Hi Frank; at this time, all of the new AC systems we carry require an air distribution box (ADB) to function. It sounds like you have a ducted system without one where it is completely sealed.

The only solution I have right now is to cut an opening to install the ADB below the AC unit which is some pretty extensive work. If you decide to go that route, the Furrion Chill Cube is the best option and will give you the inverter style you're looking for. You can choose from the following:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR39TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR99TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Wall Thermostat - Ducted - White # FR69TD (if you have a furnace)

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Wall Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD (if you have a furnace)

I have a fifth wheel that has a ducted AC system that frankly wasn't very efficient. It like your system did not have an opening in the ceiling. I replaced the bedroom unit recently with the cube ducted AC unit. I had to cut a hole in the ceiling to accommodate the inside control panel. Not that big of deal. It was sheet metal covered with paneling. I used a oscillating tool. Also had to change the way the ducted were oriented, but that was easy with some foam and metal tap. The nice thing about the ducted cube is you can operate as a ducted or non ducted unit simply by opening and closing the intake. We live full time in the Phoenix area and the cooling couldn't be better.
