Question:
I’m looking at switching my domestic unit out to the futon chill cube. I’m in north central Washington, so it gets pretty cold in the winter time. What’s the easiest way to use this system in conjunction with the propane furnace for when its cold? 2021 Heartland Fuel 305. Thank you.

Hi Matthew,
The Furrion Chill Cube thermostats are not designed to have a furnace wired into them. There have been compatibility issues with trying to tie furnaces into the Furrion thermostats, so the best option would be to have your furnace run to its own thermostat. I suggest using the Dometic Digital Thermostat part # DMC84RR, it works with 2-wire systems and will control the furnace independently. So, when it gets cold in the winter and the heat pump isn't warming the camper enough, you can kick the furnace on from the Dometic thermostat.
The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube w/Heat Pump part # FR27TQ will come with a wall thermostat add-on that you can control the air conditioner's fan, heat pump, and cooling from. It also has a Follow Me Remote that senses the temperature where its placed so that the unit will know when to adjust the temperature based on where you or the remote is at and not just the ceiling assembly. This unit is rated for 18,000 Btu cooling capacity and 17,000 Btu heating capacity so it'll handle hot days and chilly mornings. This will be a total system replacement, so the rooftop AC, thermostat, and air distribution box will all need to be switched from your Dometic set up to the Furrion to ensure compatibility.
Are you camping in Washington in the fall or winter as well?
