What Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube do I Need to Replace My Dometic 15K BTU Ducted?

Updated 05/11/2026 | Published 05/08/2026

Question:

I see multiple model numbers for a Furrion Chill Cube 18K both AC and Heat Pump. They all have the same description and details. What is the difference between each model ?

Hello Justin,

Thank you for getting back to me and confirming that your current setup is a Dometic 15K BTU ducted system. That really helps narrow things down.

At this point you’re looking at four options, but really it breaks down into two systems since each one is offered in both black and white.

The complete kit, and the one I would personally go with, is the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner with Heat Pump, ducted, 18K Btu, White, R32 # FR59TQ (black # FR27TQ). This kit comes with the 18K BTU AC with built-in heat pump, ceiling air distribution box, Follow Me remote, and a wall thermostat. It gives you the most complete setup and the easiest day to day control with the wall thermostat included.

The other option is the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner with Heat Pump, ducted, 18K Btu, White, R32 # FR67TQ (black # FR97TQ). This one still includes the AC with heat pump, ceiling air distribution box, and Follow Me remote, but it does not include the wall thermostat. Control is done through the remote and ceiling assembly instead.

One thing that does matter with what you mentioned is your ducting setup. Since you have two AC units that share ductwork and can push air both directions, you’ve got a true ducted system tied together through the same plenum. These Furrion systems will work with that, but each unit is still a single-zone system and operates independently.

So if you end up replacing both units, you would be installing two complete systems, one for each location, and each would control itself. Because of that, I would lean more toward the thermostat kits like # FR59TQ or # FR27TQ. It just makes it a lot easier to manage temps across the RV when you have two units working together through the same ducts. Using remotes for both units can work, but it tends to be a little less convenient.

One of the biggest upgrades with these Chill Cube systems is the variable speed compressor. Instead of constantly turning on and off like older RV AC systems, the compressor ramps up and down as needed. That means quieter operation, more even temperatures, better humidity control, and lower startup amperage. You’re also stepping up from your current 15K BTU system to an 18K BTU unit, so you’ll get stronger cooling performance. The built-in heat pump is great for taking the chill out of the RV during cooler mornings without needing to run the furnace.

With your shared ducting, you may also need to do a little airflow balancing after install by adjusting your ceiling vents, especially if both units are running at the same time.

So it really comes down to how you want to control it. If you want a wall thermostat, I would go with # FR59TQ or # FR27TQ. If you’re okay using the remote, then # FR67TQ or # FR97TQ will still give you the same cooling and heating performance.

Getting things ready for a big summer trip? Where are you headed to?
