Can I Add a Thermostat to my Furrion Chill HE13.5k RV With a Manual Air Distribution Box

Updated 06/08/2026 | Published 06/01/2026

Question:

I have a Furrion Chill HE13.5k RV roof air conditioner in my Grand Design Transcend. This is controlled manually with knobs on the ceiling duct. Is there a way to hook up a thermostat/relay so that I can control the temperature automatically rather than having to manually turn the unit on and off as the trailer gets hot/cold?

Thanks for reaching out, Dirk.

We may have something that will work for you, but it all depends on how old your AC unit is. Beginning in 2025, all RV and camper AC units had to be designed to use R32 refrigerant. If your unit is a 2025 model or newer, you would need to replace the air distribution box and add a single-zone controller and thermostat. I'll list those parts below:

Air Distribution Box for Furrion Chill RV Air Conditioners # FR68TD
Single Zone Controller # FR98TD
Wall Thermostat for Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner # FR88TD

If you have a pre-2025 AC unit without a thermostat, the only option we can offer would be a complete new AC system that uses R32 refrigerant, such as part # FR25TD. Parts for R32 systems are not cross compatible with older units. So there is no way to make the parts listed above work on an older set up.

I know that's probably not the ideal solution. There may still be other distributors with older inventory available, but we no longer carry components that are compatible with the older refrigerant systems.

What year is your camper?
