Which Durabilt Connector Fits Ford F-350

Question:

Currently I have a 4000 pound trailer but would like to go bigger. My current safety chain link measures 11/32 in diameter with as 25/64 clasp. I will be putting the these on a f350. If I purchase the 18000 pound durabililt hammerlock will it work on my truck and my current safety chains. Also what is the easiest way to install . I installed a set a few years ago on my F150 and could not get. The pin driven . I read a bearing press may work

Hey Ellis, yes the Durabilt safety chain connector part # DU96MR would work on your Ford F-350 as well as the safety chain you have too. Typically the pins just get hammered into place but a bearing press would also work. What method did you try to press the pin in previously?

My son in law struggled and got them beat in. I did find out a local etrailer will install them. Thanks.

@EllisF was it particularly cold or hot when he was struggling to drive them in? Another thing I've done with bearings to make it a little easier is put the pin in the freezer for like an hour and then heat up the outer portion (optional) and then try driving the pin in. The pin being basically frozen should make it a bit easier to drive in.

@JamesonC I don't remember for sure but I think it was warm. We tried freezing and lubricating the pin if I remember correctly. The problem was holding the hammer lock steady and yet being able to get a good swing on the pin.

I sprayed a little WD 40 on the pin and it hammered in very easily. I have been very pleased with the 1/2 inch size but if I did anything different I would go to the next size bigger. Just oil the pin and position it where you can get a solid hit on it and about 3 licks with a hammer should get it done.

Unfortunately the chain clasp would not fit the 18000 hammer locks.

@Ellis which ones did you go with? The part # DU96MR we talked about a couple weeks ago is the 12k Duralink Hammer Lock.

@JamesonC unfortunately I did ask about th 18000 pound ones and I specified my chains. Not a big deal I can use d rings until we get a bigger trailer and hopefully they will fit.
