What is Lug Nut Torque for 7k Dexter Trailer Axle

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 07/31/2024

Question:

I have a customer with Dexter 7k axles part number 2842988 on their 5th wheel, could you please verify if this has 1/2 in wheel studs or 9/16ths? Trying to verify proper wheel torque. Thank you

That's hard to say with any certainty since that part number actually just relates to the beam without the hub/drums and both version of hubs can fit this axle. But for your specific question about lug nut torque you can use 120 ft lbs and you'll be fine.

For 1/2 inch wheel studs the range is 90-120 ft lbs and for 9/16 inch the range is 120-140 so since 120 works for both you can go with that and be fine.

Hey, did the 120 ft lbs torque spec end up working well for your Dexter 7k axles? Knowing how it turned out could help others trying to confirm the right torque for their setup.
