Will Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device Fit Old Vertex

Updated 06/18/2026 | Published 05/16/2026

Question:

Hi Team, I have an older early 2000s Thule 4 bike rackI think its a Vertex, but there is no model number visible on the item. Ive attached a photo of the rack. I have a hitch pin and lock also pictured, my actual unit that screws into the rack hitch through my hitch, securing it tightly. This pin, when used with my 2025 4Runner 2inch hitch, is now not long enough to allow me to fit the lock over the end of the pin. So Im looking for a longer replacement pin. Would this THSTL2 fit the screw threads of this older Vertex? It looks like its now designed to fit all the way through both sides of the hitch and is longer than my original lock. The locking pin seems a different shape, though, so would I need to purchase a different lock for this bolt? Looking for any longer hitch/lock combo that can work with this rack. Thanks.

Hey Brian! That does look like an older Thule Vertex and the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 is compatible. You will use the included lock with this bolt.

Do you have the factory hitch on your 2025 4Runner? That is likely the issue here since they have that double walled design making it more like a 2-1/2" despite the 2" opening. I recommend checking the dimensions listed below compared to your receiver to make sure it will work for you.

Thanks! I’m worried about this working due to the double-wall construction. I’ll measure it and will make a decision. Thanks!

@Brian yeah they really didn't do anyone any favors with that design. This has caused quite a few problems, especially for the bike rack manufacturers.

@RobinH thanks. I measured the hitch and the outside-to-outside width is about 3.5". It looks like this hitch pin might work, even with the bolt head and the lock attached. When the lock is actually attached, do you happen to know the measurement of exposed pin remain (not including the bolt head)? As long as that's better than 3.5" it should work for my hitch. If not, I may take my chances and order anyway.

@BrianF I don't, but I can put them together and grab that when I'm back at the office Saturday or Monday.
