I have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5 premium. Do I need an additional wiring harness for this controller?

Hey Jody! If you have factory wiring with a tow port under the dash the Curt Venturer NEXT # C57SV is the better choice. This includes a custom wiring harness for a plug and play installation. It is worth mentioning that this is a time delayed controller, which really isn't the best for towing.

I recommend getting a proportional brake controller like the TriFlex NEXT # C67GV instead. Proportional brake controllers use accelerometers so the braking force on the trailer matches your vehicle. This will give you smooth and predictable braking for a much better experience and less wear on your brakes.

I'll be pulling a Sunray 149 camper, with a dry weight of approx. 2300 lbs. A proportional seems like overkill?

@Jody even with a lighter camper like your Sunray, a proportional controller is still the way to go. There really isn’t a situation where a time-delayed controller is the better choice once trailer brakes are involved. Proportional controllers simply brake smoother, react faster, and feel more natural behind the wheel.
