Why Is Curt Hitch Capacity Lower Than Blue Ox Hitch For 2026 Buick Encore GX

Updated 05/18/2026 | Published 05/16/2026

Question:

2026 Buick Encore GX How does the blue ox hitch have a higher tongue weight than the Curt? The other question is would one have any different shape to keep from having to cut the plastic fascia to fit vs the other? Thanks Michael

Hey Michael! The Curt # C93VV does seem low since it is a Class III. However, that is accurate according to Curt. It looks like the connection to the receiver tube is probably the week point, and it is the same as the Class I but with a 2" receiver tube.

Curt doesn't offer a real reason why. If I had to guess I'd say they probably didn't take it any further since it looks like the 2026 Encore GX capacity is even lower than this hitch. The Blue Ox # BLU42UR is certainly more robust with a higher capacity but you don't have much to gain if your vehicle isn't capable of matching a higher tongue weight/towing capacity. Both require trimming so that doesn't explain any difference in the design either.

What will you be using the hitch for?
