Question:
Hello, I have a 2022 Ford Explorer XLT and I am adding a trailer hitch. I am having trouble identifying the correct trailer light connector for my vehicle no factory tow package. The one that the website identifies for my vehicle says with factory tow. I need a 4 flat connection. Thanks

Hi Ean!
For your 2022 Ford Explorer without the factory towing package, you are going to want the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56093. Not sure why that isn't showing up when your vehicle is put into our fit-guide, but I will have that looked at. It definitely should.
Anyway, this is a plug and play harness, though you do need to run a wire to the battery for needed power. I included an install video we did with this harness going on to a 2020 Explorer for you to check out as well. It will make the process easier.
If you don't already have the hitch picked out, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e29YR would be my choice. The matte black finish makes it stand out a lot less than the gloss finish other brands use, so it looks more OEM in my opinion. It's also American made and has 600 pounds of tongue weight capacity and 6,000 pounds of towing capacity, so it very capable.
What are you planning on towing?

Just got through installing the same wiring harness on my Ford Explorer 2021 XLT without tow pkg. it was pretty straightforward using the etrailer video. Running the positive wire to battery was the biggest challenge but patience will prevail. Took me about 2 hrs.

My experience was flawless, easy to install and worked well for me. I did not install the connector, just left all the wire that came with it and hung it out of the back door when closed. then when done I pulled it back in and all good.
