Question:

Hi, I need to replace the gas struts on the under-bed storage in my new trailer since we replaced the original mattress with a much heavier mattress. The current struts are 80 lbs, and 20 when extended. The new mattress weighs approximately 100 lbs. and then add the weight of the platform 1/4 plywood. We think we need a 150lb. strut to replace the 80 lb ones that do not hold up the new mattress at all. Do you have any advice for us or a product to recommend? We saw a 150 lb. strut that is longer than 20 on your website, so would that be a good replacement if we change the mounting brackets? Any advice is welcome! Thanks, Nicole

Hey Nicole! With the weight of the mattress and the plywood you're probably at 140-160 lbs. You have two shocks for support, and you want the shocks to be 10-30% stronger to make sure they can lift the mattress without any issues.

Based on that, the 120 lb # 372-2300-120 or 150 lb # 372-2300-150 gas shocks are your best option. Both of these are actually 20" extended and 11.41" compressed so you don't have to move to the longer shock. I'm sure the 120 lb is enough, but the 150 lb won't hurt if you want to play it safe.
