Heavier Replacement Gas Struts for RV Under-Bed Storage With New Mattress

We purchased and installed these replacement shock measures 11.41inch compressed, 20inch extended, and has 80 lbs of force. We recently updated our mattress and when I opened the under bed storage it doesnt seem to want to continue to hold up the lid. I am wondering if I should replace the shocks with heavier duty ones and wonder if the heavier ones will easily replace the ones I have.

Hey Lewellyn! Since the new mattress added weight, moving up to a higher force shock should take care of the problem. We have the same 20" extended and 11.41" compressed JR Products shocks in 90 lb # 372-2300-90, 100 lb # 372-2300-100, and 150 lb # 372-2300-150, so they can replace your current 80 lb shocks without changing the mounting dimensions. You also don't want to go too heavy since excessive force can make the bed difficult to close and put extra stress on the mounting hardware.

I'm not sure what the original mattress weighted. The new one is 51#. The shocks we now have try to hold the lid but can't. So I'm not sure which one to get. What would be your recommendation?
