Recommended Brackets for RV Designer Gas Struts w/a 10 mm ball

Updated 06/09/2026 | Published 05/27/2026

Question:

I would like to use gas struts to raise my bed so that I can get into the storage area under the bed. What do I need to do to measure to decide what length I would need? Also, I would need a latch that would hold the gas struts down until released?

Welcome back John. The most important thing you'll need to know is how heavy your bed and the base it's sitting on weighs so you can get the right strength strut. Once you figure that out you can measure the length of your storage area and base to find out how long your struts need to be.

Then you can mount the Angled Brackets for RV Designer Gas Struts item # RD47MR or Flat Brackets item # RD37MR to the sides of your storage area and the bottom of your mattress platform.

The brackets will provide the attachment point for the struts you'll need to hold your mattress and the platform up. I've listed a some options below and linked our entire selection as well.

26" Long - 150 lbs Force item # RD49MR

26" Long - 100 lbs Force item # RD99MR

20" Long - 120 lbs Force item # RD74MR

The weight of your mattress and the platform will hold the struts closed once you close the platform. The listed length is how long the struts are when extended.

What size mattress do you have and does the platform open on the side or end of the mattress?

You can add this information, along with any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.
