Question:

Im replacing factory iinstalled Optibrite ILL70CBSBawn light with new exact same model. What is best way to connect trailer wires to light 2 wires black and white? Small squeeze connecctors? Two connecctors have to fit back thru small hole in trailer exterior wall.

Hello again Mark,

Great question.

Since you’re working with the Opti-Brite LED Strip Light w/ Switch for RV Awnings - Weatherproof - Black Housing - 11" Long # ILL70CBSBAWN and need to fit everything back through that small hole, I’d avoid the squeeze-style connectors since they can be bulky and harder to seal up properly.

I’d recommend using heat shrink butt connectors like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 10 # DW05744-10. They give you a slim, watertight connection that will fit through the opening and help prevent moisture from getting into the wall.

To install, strip the wires, crimp the connectors securely, then apply heat so they fully seal. If space is tight, you can stagger the connections slightly so they’re easier to tuck back inside. Once everything is in place, it’s a good idea to seal around the hole with a bit of silicone to keep water out.

If you don’t already have one, a heat gun like the Heat Gun - 572 to 932 Degrees - Dual Fan Speed - 12 Amp - 1,500 Watts # PT47VR will make that part easy.

Where is the light located that you’re replacing, more at the awning, porch, or near a compartment door?

Hi Kate, Thanks for your quick reply. The Opti-Bright light is on back order, and is expected to be delivered May-4. Turns out I have several of the recommended shrink butt connectors on hand. Mark
