The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty part # RED52VR paired with the part # ETBC7 kit is the right way to go to convert your 4-way to a 7-way and get true, smooth trailer braking on your 2019 Highlander, so you won’t have to worry about that pushing feeling behind you.

The part # ETBC7 is the key piece to convert the 4-way but it does involve running power from the battery to the back of the vehicle and tying into your brake signal up front, so there is some wiring and splicing involved. I used the Universal wiring harness installation kit on my 2014 Highlander, but then opted for the Bluetooth Curt Echo (and my smartphone) in lieu of a hard-wired controller: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brake-Controller/CURT/C51180.html.

@JeremyD A lot of people end up going that route so they don't have to wire the 7-way to the brake light switch. It does make it easier to just go with a bluetooth brake controller like the Echo part # C51180. Sounds like it's working out well for you! What do you tow?

I installed the universal wiring kit in a 2023 Highlander and it works great. I would recommend soldering all connections, crimp connections come loose with vibration and corrosion. I had a backfeed problem that caused the trailer connection to overheat. No problems with everything soldered.
