Powering Your Voyager Monitor from USB

Question:
Is it possible to replace the 12V DC power cord that goes to the 4.3inch monitor with a cord that plugs into either a USB port or preferably a 3-prong standard household outlet? On my truck Ford F-150 Powerboost these outlets are close to where I want to mount the monitor, but the DC port is a long way away.

Hey Gino, I totally get what you’re trying to do there. Having that 12 volt outlet way across the cab can make things feel messy fast, especially when you’re trying to keep a clean setup and good visibility.
The Voyager WiSight 2.0 monitor part # ASA84YR is designed to run on a steady 12 volt DC input through that barrel-style plug, so it won’t work with a standard USB cable by itself since USB only puts out 5 volts. You can make it work with your truck’s outlets though by using a USB-C power delivery adapter or a household outlet adapter that specifically outputs 12 volts and has the correct 5.5 by 2.1 millimeter barrel plug. The key is making sure whatever you use actually steps up or provides a true 12 volts, otherwise the monitor either won’t turn on or won’t run reliably.
If you want to play it safe and keep things simple, a longer 12 volt extension or a hardwired 12 volt lead closer to your mounting spot is usually the most dependable route. If you’re thinking about one of those outlet options, I can help double check the exact adapter so you don’t end up with something underpowered.

Hi Heather, it turns out that the barrel plug is 4.0mm x 1.7mm. I purchased this adapter from Amazon and it powers the remote display from the 3-prong dash outlet on my truck's dash: https://a.co/d/0axZQtun (Accessory USA AC 100V-240V Converter Adapter DC 12V 2A Power Supply US Plug 4.0mm x 1.7mm).

I was forced to buy a whole new system (camera and monitor) because the original factory installed camera on my Airstream failed and was no longer available as a replacement part. I did not attempt to wire up the monitor in a different way other than the barrel connector for the cigarette lighter that was provided.
