Do Lippert Self Adjusting Brakes Require Initial Adjustment

Updated 03/31/2026 | Published 03/29/2026

Question:

Ordered these and had them installed. One rotor was running much hotter than the other 3 140 vs. 95-105 after driving. Do these need to be initially adjusted? Could not find the star wheel that some brakes require I did not install. It was suggested I roll backwards with the brakes on to initially adjust them then theyd self adjust. Looking for some tuning tips.

Hey Kevin, this is a great question but oftentimes it is a good idea to manually adjust self adjusting brakes like the # LC83PX yo have initially to basically get them close and then from there not worry about adjustments. Have you adjusted brake assemblies before?

I have not... assumed since they were "self adjusting" nothing would need to be done or the installer would have done it.

@KevinK eventually they will work themselves out to be properly tensioned but ideally they get at least a close initial adjustment.
