Which Automatic Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch Slides Back the Furthest

Updated 04/27/2026 | Published 03/28/2026

Question:

Have a 2016 Ram 4500 60” cab to axel cab and chassis 4x4 quad cab. This is a welding truck. My pivot point needs to be about 3’ feet behind the axel giving me about 46” clearance from my welding machine to make as close to 90° turn as possible. I know my hitch will be behind the axel. I’m looking for the longest slide most capacity sliding fifth wheel hitch, preferably automatic, I can mount as close over the axel as possible and still gain turning radius needed.

Hey Kory, as far as the automatic sliders go the Pullrites like the Superglide part # PUL28RR that you referenced. This one is designed to attach to OEM pucks of a Ram truck. Is that what you have by chance or a way to install those?

I have a factory flat bed right now but plan to build a custom bed later. I don’t know anything about the puck system, can I buy the parts and install them on a flat bed? Are they bolt on parts? Can they be welded?

@KoryB If it's possible to get the pucks you'd have to go through a Ram dealer for that.
