Looking For Range Hood Vent Cover That Keeps Water Out On Rainy/Windy Days

Updated 03/30/2026 | Published 03/21/2026

Question:

I have a Grand Design 2930RLS 5th wheel. When it rains with heavy wind toward the exterior range hood vent, water comes through the vent and ends up on the kitchen counter next to the range. I cant use a locking door vent cover because I cant reach it without a ladder. Do you have a vent cover with like a goose neck down that may keep the rain from blowing up into it? Suggestions?

Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out. Yes we do have something for you. We don't have anything with a "gooseneck" shape, but I do have an alternative range hood vent cover I think you will be interested in. Take a look at the following:

- Ventline Exterior Wall Vent for RV Range Hood - 1-11/16" Collar - Black # VE35VV

This is designed specifically to help keep moisture from entering the camper on those rainy, windy days. The vent opening sits closer to the wall than most standard vents. It has a built-in damper that helps block water from entering, and you can even lock the damper closed during storms which keeps any and all water out. Just make sure you unlock and open it before you use the vent. This will definitely be your best option for preventing water entry. I know those leaks can be troublesome and scary. Water is a campers worst enemy after all.

I'd just want you to make sure your vent opening is approximately 10-1/2" wide x 3-3/4" tall. As long as this matches up, you can be sure the wall vent will work.

Do you camp in a lot of areas with bad weather? Do you do a lot of indoor cooking?

Brian, I have have a Grand Design 390rk and had the same issue with the microwave vent leaking during any kind of rain and would leak all over the counter top. I replaced the vent with the one mentioned above (VE35VV) and I have had an issue since. I actually replaced the vent over the stove as well. What’s nice is the vent does have an inner flap that can be closed but I leave mine open even going down the road without issue. Good luck!

I have installed the Ventline exterior wall vent this past year, and so far so good. I do like that the outlet at the bottom of the vent has a mesh pattern to keep the bugs out and the built in flapper door seems to keep the wind and rain from coming in. I did have to re-drill new holes in the vent to match my existing screw holes, but other than that, installation was a breeze. I would recommend the Ventline vent for replacing an existing vent.

I have had mine for almost a year and it has never leaked. As mentioned in my original review, it is an upgrade over what was on the trailer. Much better quality and design. Jesse mention that it can be locked closed which would absolutely solve your problem, but if you can't reach it to lock it, that option won't help in your situation. However, I have never locked mine closed and have not had a leak yet so it might help with your problem.

@Keith Nice that's great! Sounds like the vent upgrade was exactly what you needed. Great tip about the locking feature too. Thanks for sharing!
