Base Plate For 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/08/2026

Question:

Hi Etrailer, I have a 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. 1-What would be the difference to install towing brackets on this unit compared to a regular Colorado? the tow hooks are in the same location. 2-Will the Etrailer base plate accept the Blue Ox pins that comes with Blue Ox base plate kit? I presently have a Blue Ox tow bar system towing a Mini Cooper. Hope you can help Thank You Gilles

Hi Gilles, I can see why you want to double check this before ordering anything because the ZR2 Bison is a little different than a regular Colorado.

The etrailer base plate part # e97FV is not a fit for your 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison. The Bison uses the heavy duty AEV steel front bumper, and base plates that fit the standard Colorado or even the regular ZR2 bumper typically do not line up correctly with that AEV bumper configuration.

The good news is Roadmaster does have a confirmed fit for the Bison with the AEV bumper, which is base plate part # RM56NQ. It is a good idea to confirm that you infact have the AEV factory bumper since this will not work with aftermarket bumpers. Since you already have a Blue Ox tow bar and want to keep using it, you can adapt the Roadmaster base plate to your Blue Ox tow bar using the Roadmaster base plate adapter brackets for Blue Ox RV mounted tow bars, part # RO64FR. That way you keep your existing tow bar and still get a clean, correct fit under the Bison’s bumper.

What braking system are you currently using with your Mini? I’m happy to help you get the Bison set up as a toad.

I installed the e-trailer tow bar system. It was an easy install on my 2024 Colorado Trailboss. It will not accept Blue Ox tow attachments. They are different.

@MarkM Nice! That's good info but we have not made an etrailer base plate for the Bison yet like what Gilles has. It would be nice! How is the etrailer base plate working out for you? Any big plans for the summer?

Not sure the confusion here on the blue ox attachments. I installed this on my 2024 colorado z71. I already had the blue ox tow bars system, the blue ox system will match up perfectly to this base plate. the install is way easier then described in the videos, you dont have to remove the entire from clip like they do in the video. My friend and I did this install in about 3 hrs with no lift or special tools.

@Tim Thanks for the info. You are saying the Blue Ox tow bar matches up to the Roadmaster baseplate on your Z71 without the adapters?

I installed the etrailer base plate and diode wiring kit also battery disconnect solenoid . 1) removed whole front grill very hard task 2) remove tow hooks easy 3) install etrailer tow plates in place where tow hook removed , top bolts were little tricky ,used red lock tight and torque all to specs easy 4) diode wiring kit kit starting from front of truck and hooked ground directly to battery also mounted 6 prong plug to front steel frame under louvers then followed main wire harness to rear of truck. Not too difficult then wired diode kit to rear lights by removing rear taillights and unplugged harness to light as directed in wiring diagram of diode kit little trouble understanding instructions but figured it out 5) batterie disconnect switch as per instructions easy 6) reinstall front grill and cut out where needed to get 6 wire plug in center of truck very tough Just take your time and it will look like professional job note if you can afford it get a professional. Removing and installing grill very hard
