Best Cushioned Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter for Brinkley Z2900

Updated 06/10/2026 | Published 06/08/2026

Question:

I have a Brinkley Z2900 5th Wheel w/Rhino Pin Box. Want to replace with Gooseneck to save weight as Im very close to payload cap on my F-250 67inch bed w/towing package, etc. Current BandW Slider Hitch is 265 lbs! Plus have found out I dont really needinch the slider. Pin Weight is typically around 2,300 lbs. Max trailer weight is around 14,500 but will never be that much due to payload limitations usually around 13,000. Im concerned over some brands Gen Y, etc. not having one in the sweet spotinch as far as shock absorption. Maybe MoRyde? Maybe this new BandW? Also concerned that trailer height will be about the same if I switch pin boxes? Maybe Im just overthinking it... Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff, we can definitely help! But first off thanks for all of the info you listed as that makes getting you exactly what you are looking for a lot easier. Based on that I would highly recommend the MORryde GooseTech part # MR74MV which is correct for your trailer weight figures that you mentioned and it's the one we have found that provides the best cushioning of all of the adapters out now. This is also the correct fit to replace a Lippert Rhino as well.

Aside from it being on the heavier side how did you like the Companion hitch?

The hitch has worked fine-- it's just so darn HEAVY. You are only showing 2 reviews so not exactly overwhelming endorsement. Probably need to do some more research. Any insight into the new B&W pin box? Shape looks kinda awkward...

@Jeff Only two reviews because it's very new. I am sure after a bit of time more will roll in. B and W looks great. It isn't available yet aside from to a few influencers online it seems. Consensus is that it's also good. We are more or less at the point where the current batch of cushioned pin boxes are all really nice that you'll be happy with any of them but the small differences are on the margins.

@JamesonC To really go down the rabbit hole, do you know what the "length" of the B&W is? I'm reading mixed messages about some hitches bringing the RV closer to the cab, while others may actually push it a bit farther away. I'm comfortable w/o the slider on my truck-- but not if a prospective hitch actually brings the RV closer to the cab. A couple of inches could really make a difference. Thanks!

@Jeff From the rear set of mounting bolt holes to the center of the ball hole will be 25 inches.
