Updated 03/05/2026 | Published 03/03/2026

Question:

We just bought a 2009 Holiday Rambler 37ft fifth wheel with a Carrier AC and Heat unit in it and when we went to turn it in the AC will Come on with the remote control and is cold and then stopped working after about an hour so we tried the heat and it did the same thing came on was blowing heat then turned off and stopped working? Why won’t it keep working after an hour or so

Hey, Riley.

I definitely understand your concern, especially since you just got the RV. When the AC and heat both shut off after about an hour, that can feel like a bigger hidden issue.

If this is the original Carrier unit, getting a replacement is often what's best. Carrier no longer manufactures RV air conditioners or replacement parts, so even if it’s a small internal component that's failing, parts are unfortunately no longer available.

Since both cooling and heat are shutting down after running for a while, it’s likely an internal control or compressor issue that shows up once the unit reaches operating temperature. A local RV tech can confirm this for you.

If you decide to replace it:

For ducted setups: GE Appliances Low-Profile RV AC with Heat Pump Part # GE38RR
For non-ducted setups: GE Appliances Low-Profile RV AC with Heat Pump Part # GE98RR

consistent reliability and reassurance that it's going to keep you cool on hot days and warm on chilly nights.

Both options are up to the new R32 refrigerant standards that all new RV AC units must use. So they are very affective and will keep you cool on hot days and warm on chilly nights.

What kind of travel plans have you looking forward to with the new camper?
