Should Firestone Heavy Duty Air Compressor Connect to 2019 Silverado 3500 Battery

I received my Firestone airbags and compressor kit today F2709 and F56VV to go on my 2019 3500 HD Dually. Woo-hoo!!! Went through the instructions and started the pre-builds till I can get the truck in the garage for install. Looks very straight forward except for the power hook-up. Compressor diagrams show hooking up directly to the battery, though it mentions only hooking up the negative directly to the battery for a clean ECU ground. It shows the positive also going to the battery but doesnt mention that it has to but I suspect, and I did some digging, it will have some parasitic draw due to the ECU needing some power to monitor the remote or the app. Final instructions to check out the install are to hook up the battery and turn on the ignition and check it out...not necessary if hooked up directly. Where is the recommended spot to tap into power on this particular truck? The cable allows about 5 feet between pos and neg hookup so it doesnt have to be at the battery, and it has an inline 20 amp fuse so wherever it goes needs to be able to handle some decent draw. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Joe, welcome back! Firestone does intend for the # F56VV to connect directly to the battery. The compressor can pull quite a bit of power when it is running, and you don't want it sharing that with other factory circuits. You might be able to get away with running a small compressor to the fuse box, but this is a heavy duty air compressor so the battery is the only real way to do this.
The ECU does remain in a low-draw standby mode so it can “wake up” from the remote or app. Yes, that does mean there is a small parasitic draw but we're talking about milliamps. This isn't a problem for most people. If you're leaving the truck sitting for long periods of time you could always install a manual disconnect switch on the positive lead.
Regarding the final step, reattaching the negative battery cable is a given and they are just reminding you. Turning on the ignition helps keep the battery from draining. You can definitely run it without since it is hooked up directly but they recommend starting the truck in most cases to keep the battery charged.

Hi Robin. Yes sir, is for the 990, plus I pull a 5th wheel at times when the wife wants to go. I was asked for a review via e-mail last week via email but the links didn't work so your CS had me send direct. Haven't seen it, maybe not what they wanted. Regardless, all is well. Installed and working fine. I do have one issue I am not too tickled over and that seems to be the VERY limited amount (1 it seems) of locations where you can mount this compressor on this truck. Is directly below the passenger rear door on the outside frame rail. I have it as far up as I can get it, but when you stand back you can see the pump. Between exhaust and steel fluid lines, I can find no other suitable area to mount. Already brain storming a fabrication of a cover to prevent road spray from hitting the pump, and since the pump is facing out, spray is a certainty. Question is, do you know of any other location to mount this? This truck is looooong but chevy successfully made every attempt to make 99% of it inappropriate for mounting items like this. Maybe you can put that question out to your legion of readers... Thanks...
