Will BedRug BRQ99LBK Fit A 2011 Ford F-350 With The OEM Tailgate Step Removed?

Updated 03/31/2026 | Published 02/16/2026

Question:

My truck is a 2011 F-350 with 8 ft bed. The truck is a Lariat model and does have the OEM tail gate step along with originally having the pole that raises up from the tail gate. I have removed the hinged tail gate pole and the ribbed plastic tail gate cover, putting a metal cover in its place. I would like to know if there is any reason I should not be purchasing the BedRug for my truck that doesnt have the tail gate step? Effectively, my trucks tail gate is pretty much the same form factor since I removed the hinged tail gate pole and replaced the ribbed plastic cover with a flat metal piece. Please see the added pictures. I do understand the BedRug tail gate piece cant be secured to the moveable part of the tailgate step and Im OK with that. Thank you.

Hey Brad, thanks for reaching out. I appreciate you laying all that out, that helps a lot.

Since you removed the hinged step pole and swapped the ribbed plastic panel for a flat metal cover, your tailgate is basically functioning like a standard non-step tailgate at this point. From a fitment perspective, there is no real structural difference that would cause an issue with the BedRug made for trucks without the tailgate step. The main complication with the factory step setups is securing the liner around the moving parts, and since those are no longer in play on yours, that concern is essentially gone.

As long as the inside of the tailgate is flat and there is no remaining step hardware sticking up that would interfere with the hook-and-loop attachment, you should be in good shape. Based on what you described, I would not hesitate to run the # BRQ99LBK BedRug option on your F-350.

@JesseM I'm reporting back in the event this helps anyone who might have read this question of mine. I did order and receive (quickly I might add) the Bedrug #BRQ99LBK from etrailer for my 2011 F-350 Lariat longbed which has the tailgate step where I removed the hinged tailgate step pole and ribbed tailgate plastic cover, replaced with a "flat" metal cover in its place. The Bedug installed perfectly with the only "slight" modification would be arranging the "hook" tape to solidly stick to the end of the tailgate in 3 sections. That means I needed to cut the hook tape into 3 pieces for the tailgate cover to stay secured at the end, should be easy to figure out what I mean by this once you're in process of installing. Other than that, everything went into place and I'm looking forward to having the Bedrug in my truck bed with camper build-out.

@Brad Nice! Thanks for the follow-up, Brad, really appreciate you coming back and sharing how it went. That’s great info on the tailgate step setup and the hook tape adjustment, that’s exactly the kind of detail that helps the next guy avoid surprises. Glad to hear the install went smoothly overall and that it fit well on your F-350. Sounds like you are well on your way to a solid camper build.
