Question:

To etrailer, A little guidance on deciding what Hellwig helper set would best fit my needs. Im towing a 8500 lb trailer with a tounge weight of about 1100 lbs with my 2019 F150 Crew cab 4x4 truck. It pushes my truck down a good 2 to 3 inches at the wheel opening. Im thinking the Hellwig EZ 990 would work for my needs. Or would the Hellwig Pro suit my needs better. I look foward to your advise. Thank You

Hey Don, thanks for the information! That's a significant amount of sag and a pretty heavy trailer, I recommend the Hellwig Pro Series Helper Springs item # HE79FR for the higher 2,500 lbs capacity. I doubt you're driving around with your bed empty so you have to account for that weight contributing to your rear end sag too.

The Hellwig Pro Series item # HE79FR have a progressive spring rate so they're really going to engage and help prop up your F-150's rear end when you're loaded down and ready to go. They're adjustable as well so you can play with how you set them up to dial in your preferences for a comfortable ride.

We installed the Hellwig Pro Series item # HE79FR on a 2018 F-150 awhile back. I linked the installation video below so you can see how to get them setup. It also has a nice little walk through at the beginning that shows how affective the system is.

What kind of trailer do you have and have you thought about using a weight distribution system to address that rear end sag?

Hi Jerred, thank you for your reply and recommendations. I was thinking you would advise the heavier HE79FR spring set. I won't be caring much in the pickup bed. Just our travel luggage and safety tools. I'm including pictures of the trailer and the vehicle I'm towing to give an idea of what's being towed. I probably looking back would have purchased a F250 instead. But Ford sells the idea that their F150 will tow this trailer. As for load leveling, I am moving the vehicle back about a foot in the trailer to lighten the tongue weight. I have another question about Trimax wheel locks. I want to purchase the TMX72ZR set with a storage bag. My tire size is 225R-15. Will this set work for my tire size?

@Don You're welcome! The Hellwig Pro Series Helper Springs item # HE79FR is definitely going to be the best option out of those two. Your topper alone is going to add 200ish lbs, so you'll want the extra capacity. That's a nice truck your hauling around. It looks so clean and mint. Moving it towards the back of your trailer is going to increase sway. I'd install the item # HE79FR and give it a run loaded the way you have it first. Rear end sagging isn't ideal but sway is going to be way worse and unpredictable. The Trimax Trailer Wheel Chock and Lock item # TMX72ZR are going to be a solid upgrade over the current cable you have woven through your wheels. Your 225R-15 tires are only 9ish inches wide so the locks will work great.

We just added the pro series on our 2020 f150 that we use for roof repairs carrying some supplies in bed and towing a 12' enclosed trailer but is pretty loaded with materials. I am not sure on tongue weight but the truck sagged a bunch. Glad we got the pro series and nothing lighter. With the adjustment I think if they were too stiff you could always lighten them up, but even with them cranked down I didn't think the truck rode bad before we put the trailer back on.
