What Does TPMS System Mean When It Says Metal Valve Stems Only

Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/07/2026

Question:

Im looking at one of your TPMS systems for a boat trailer. What do they mean by compatible with metal valve stems only. Please include a photo if possible. Mine are rubber with a brass top. TIA

Hey Paul! The TST TPMS for Boat Trailers # TST78FR requires an all metal valve stem to support the sensors. The standard valves stems you have now with rubber and the brass tip are not compatible. If you want to use this system you can swap out your valve stems with the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906.

What boat are you towing?

The force created as the wheel rotates with the sensors will eventually crack the rubber valve stem , the metal bolt in is trouble free. I use them on my 42’ fifth wheel with my TPMS sensors. Safe travels.
