Does the Lionshead Liger Trailer Wheels Have a Maximum PSI?

Updated 09/07/2026 | Published 09/05/2026

Question:

I purchased 4 new Liger wheels 16”x6” rims 8on 6-1/2” from ETrailer about 4 weeks ago. I’m wanting to install Sailun S637T 235/85R/16 tires on the wheels. The G rated 14 ply are a max PSI of 110. The H rated 16 ply are a max psi of 120 I’m being told I would meed to replace the valve stems that came on the new wheels with a higher rated stem. My question is “will these wheels handle the 120 psi tires or not?

Hi Lee,

Trailer wheels don't have a maximum psi rating; the psi rating comes from the valve stems. The valve stem that is included with the Liger trailer wheels part # LH49FR is rated for 100psi and lower. So, you'll want to use something like the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem Part # AM20906 to swap out the valve stems that come with the wheels. The AM20906 are rated for pressures above 100 psi,i so it'll easily handle the 110 or 120 psi of either tire.

What kind of trailer are these tires/wheels going on?

They will be going on a 2018 Voltage 3005 35ft. toyhauler. GVWR is 16,500ibs. Can you confirm the stems on my new wheels are 100psi like you posted on the last email or are they 110psi. I’m concerned because the new wheels have a stamp on the inside of them that read “max 110psi. What is the part number for stems 120psi or higher?

@LeeW The valve stem included with the Liger wheels for sure only works up to 100 psi. You can use the Americana Bolt-in Metal Valve Stems part # AM20906 to replace the valve stems that come with the wheels. The Americana stems are rated for pressures up to 200 psi so they can easily handle the 110 or 120 psi of the Sailun tires.

Yes, you will need to upgrade your valve stems. The wheels will handle the 120 psi. I put 16 ply Hercules tires on my rims. I have a 40 foot three slide out travel trailer. I purchased this particular rim because it was an exact Factory match. I have had no problems whatsoever with the pressure or the ply of tire I installed on the rim.

@JosephG Yep, the factory valve stems are only rated up to 100 psi, so switching out to new, higher rated valve stems is a must to run tires with higher pressures. Do you remember what valve stems you used when you switched?

Which valve stem comes with the LH39FR Liger wheels? Cannot handle a tire rated for 120psi? I want to run Sailun ST235/85R16 H rated tires. This tire says max air pressure of 120psi.

@LeeW The brand of the valve stems that comes with the wheels isn't listed, but they are only rated up to 100 psi. To use the Sailun tires you'll need to swap out the valves that come with the wheel to something that can handle a higher psi, like the Americana Metal Bolt-in Valve Stems part # AM20906 I mentioned in my answer.
