Replacement Lower Section for WFCO 8955PEC that Is Compatible with Lithium Batteries
Updated 02/11/2026 | Published 02/05/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2018 Forest River trailer. It has a WIFC WF-8955PEC electrical panel with AC04W16C617423 charger. I would like to upgrade to a charger with LiFePO4 charge profile or switchable lead acid/LiFePO4. The slot it needs to fit in is 9 1/4 x 7 x 4. AC input on left, DC output on right. Overall unit is 13 inch x 11 1/2 x 8. What do you suggest. Thanks, Charlie

Hey Charles, we have exactly what you are looking for with the replacement lower converter part # PD4655V. This was designed to replace what you have now and adapt it so that it can be used with Lithium or Lead Acid batteries. The dimensions of this are 13-1/4" long x 8" deep x 5-3/8" wide so you would need to open up the slot a bit. Is that possible?

2004 FR Lexington S235 (owner is an elderly guy) Installed myself with little difficulty other than the outer box of the converter/charger was slightly bent causing the box attachment to be a bit tedious. While I had the wires available, I tightened the AC wires also. The electrical panel has worked well.

Installed in a Thor24F. Was easy to install, and fit where my 8955 use to be. I had to modify the mounting as they are different but should not move around. Haven’t taken the rig off the highway yet in any potholed or wash panned roads so I don’t know how my mounting will hold up. Built real sturdy and much better quality than the WFCO one. I didn’t installed the 12V board as the main device board you and move the jumper from shipped lithium setting or acid battery. I installed three Epoch 105aH batteries. You have to disconnect your engine alternator setup or the battery management can shut down the lithium and potentially damage your alternator. I have two solar panels so that wasn’t a stopper for me. I also had to upgrade my charge controller to a Victron so I could do lithium. Like I said, install was way easy, five wires. No fires yet and would do again.

I just did this exact upgrade. I was starting with a 2015-manufactured unit but it was still an 8955PEC. You should read the technical bulletins that Progressive Dynamics publishes on their website. They have several that pertain. It may be possible your unit is fully capable of supporting LiFePO4 by switching a jumper or removing a 4 pin harness (which are set up for lead acid). There were changes after my 2015 unit was built. Read them carefully and maybe save yourself time money and trouble. If you decide you must upgrade anyway, there were minor changes on their DC output board (where the fuses are all located) that forced me to do some "file to fit" tweeking that wasn't all that fun. At all. Otherwise, the converter portion (the large part) of #PD4655V was a perfect fit.
