Replacement Lower Section Recommendation for WFCO 8955 to be Lithium Compatible

Question:

Converter Replacement: I have a 10 year old travel trailer with AGM batteries that need replacement. I want to install a single 12v 280ah Lithium battery. The trailer has a 30amp service when plugged into shore power. The current converter is a WFCO model: WF-8955PEC which is for Lead Acid/AGM, only. Which Progressive Dynamics Lithium compatible converter is a direct replacement for the WF-8955PEC? I would prefer a converter that is not an auto-detect, but rather is lithium, only or has a manual switch for lithium or lead acid/agm. I do not want the entire fuse panel. I am looking for just the converter, only, as a direct replacement.

Hey Lee, we have exactly what you are looking for with the Progressive Dynamics replacement lower unit part # PD4655V which will allow your setup to be lithium compatible and also doesn't use auto detect to determine battery type and instead requires a manual battery type selection. When PD was here to talk about their lower units they were really proud of their battery type selection being manual as it would prevent an auto detect from screwing it up and making a problem. Is that why you requested that feature?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I was told by a solar installer and someone with personal experience that the converters with 'auto-detect' fail be either not recognizing lithium or revert back to lead-acid not providing a full charge. This is also borne out by some of the reviews I have read on those products. That is why I'm looking for a converter with a fixed setting for lithium and the PD4655V appears to be the ideal replacement. A follow up question: The Progressive Dynamics direct replacement 'PD4655V' appears to come with its own DC fuse board (based on the above link you provided). Do I need to use their DC fuse board? Will the PD4655V plug directly into the existing WFCO DC fuse board?

@LeeS makes sense! It's a smart thing to ask for as it immediately let me know that you had done your research! I would recommend using the included fuse board as I am not sure how well it would work with other one.
