Do I Need to Replace the Fuse Panel When Installing a PD4655V for Lithium Batteries?
Updated 06/10/2026 | Published 06/09/2026 >
Question:
I am replacing the parralax power center 7155 converter to the PD4655V. I am installing lithium iron phosphate battery and was wondering if I need to replace the fuse panel that has the wizard button on it that comes with the PD4655V or not for a lithium setup. Do I need to replace that? It doesnt matter if I need to or not im just wondering if I needed to or if the lithium setup doesnt require it then I can omit that from the install. I appreciate your time and response.

Hello Nick,
Thanks for writing in.
Yes, you do need to replace the fuse panel section that comes with the # PD4655V, even when you're installing lithium batteries.
The fuse board isn't just there for the Charge Wizard button. The replacement assembly included with the # PD4655V contains the converter electronics and the circuitry that allows the Charge Wizard and lithium charging functions to communicate with the converter (I attached an image showing the wire connecting the 2). When Progressive Dynamics designed the # PD4655V as a replacement for the Parallax 7155, they intended for the entire replacement section to be installed as a unit rather than reusing the original Parallax fuse panel components.
The good news is that once it's installed, you can use the Charge Wizard button to place the converter into Lithium Mode when charging your LiFePO4 battery bank. The converter will then provide the proper charging profile for lithium batteries. If you leave the original Parallax fuse panel section in place, you may not have access to all of the functionality that makes the # PD4655V lithium compatible.
Since you're already doing the upgrade and have the new assembly, I'd go ahead and install the complete # PD4655V replacement section as Progressive Dynamics intended. That way you'll know everything is wired correctly and you'll get the full benefit of the lithium charging features.
What kind of RV is this in, and what adventure are you looking most forward to this summer?
