Extension for 2026 Ram 5500 With Truck Bed Camper Towing Boat

Updated 02/11/2026 | Published 02/04/2026

Question:

I have 2026 ra 5500 with a cm flat bed. I haul alance 1172 side in camper on the flat bed. Overhangs the flatbed 38 inches in the back. The cm flatbed has a 2.5” receiver tube. I wish to pull my boat which weights 4500 lbs. I have been looking at the super truss extension, but not sure how I could use the bottom tube. Any advise would surely be helpful. Jeff

Hey Jeff! The TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension like # TLE1542 is only designed to work with the TorkLift SuperHitch Magnum Trailer Hitch Receiver # TL49YR. You won't be able to use it with your existing 2-1/2" receiver on the flatbed.

What you can use instead is the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RP45018. You will cut it down to the 41" length which will give you a max gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs. You can also use the TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension for 42" SuperTruss # TLW6042 to extend your wiring back to the trailer.

Keep in mind, the use of an extension will cut the capacity of your hitch by 50% so you need to make sure the hitch can still handle the weight of the trailer.

Any big trips coming up this spring with your boat and camper?

I have a Chevy 2024 3500 dually - load a 975 Lance camper on the bed & pull my boat. I used the above pictured hitch box extension (2.5") by shortening the length - this increases the load the extension can handle. Due to the weight of my boat - I did not have to use the super hitch. FYI - the extension does not flex since the 2.5" has a 2" tube steel core.

Titan hitch box extension 48 inch extension for 2 1/2 inch trailer hitches. I run the Titan extension at full 48” length , behind my 2024 Ram 2500 single rear wheel with an Arctic Fox 811 pickup camper . I have pulled a 18 ft fishing boat single axle , 3000 lbs and separately a 16 ft enclosed trailer that is approximately 3500 lbs loaded . Absolutely no problems with either one . I did add my own touch , by putting diagonal chain supports from just behind the hitch ball, to a bracket hanging below the bumper on the frame, I have turnbuckles that tighten these chains to take any possible side to side “ wobble” out of the equation . It works so great, I don’t really know the trailers are back there !

I use the 42 inch extension with my 10,000 pound rated hitch. The truck carries a Lance 1050. I have’s a 8ft. Enclosed trailer that hauls well. I have towed u-haul trailers for car hauling and no issues. I did get an adjustable connecting link to increase height of the item in tow. My truck is a 12 valve diesel with mods to increase rear suspension and stability. 3/4 ton rated.
