What is Best RV AC Unit Recommendation for 2014 Grand Design Solitude 369RL
Updated 01/18/2026 | Published 01/14/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2014 Grand Design Solitude 5th whell Model 369RL. I have 2 Dometic AC units that are ducted. One in the back living area which I believe is 15000 BTUs. It is the original unit. The second is up front in the bedroom. I believe it is 10000 BTUs a Penquin unit. I am on my 4th unit. Not very fond of this unit. We are full time in or rig and we spend the summers here in Florida. Not the best option but it is what it is. In the summer as you can imagine, its hot and the units have a tough time keeping up. I also feel that the rear unit is not working as well as it could being as old as it is. Anyway after some research I feel that I wouls like to replace both units with the Furrion Chill cubes. Shouls I replace both with the 18000 units? What do I need to make this work on my RV? My thermostat also controls my furnace, which we very rarly use. I have seen that the thermostat from Furrion that comes with your complete kits seems to be having some issuses. Have they addressed the problems? Any other advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Hey Albert, for what you are looking for yes the Furrion Chill Cube Ducted kit part # FR99TD would be your best option. You'll be blown away (pun intended) which how much better this works than what you have now and you'll also notice it's a lot quieter as well. I would use one of these for both spots in your RV as well.
The thermostat with this is still not as reliable as we would like with furnaces so you could continue to use the thermostat you have now for just the furnace and then use what comes with this kit for the AC.

Hi , etrailer reached out to me because I have bought the furion a/c and installed it in my camper I also have a ducted system and my furnace is controlled the same way as yours It comes with a remote control that can be set as the point that the air temperature is set to so whenever the remote is the temperature will be set to that point So you can either use the controls on the unit face or the remote Also you will continue to your furnace control by the controller that you use now The unit has easy to use vents on the face for instant cooling or close them and it goes through your vents It’s very quiet and actually uses less power than other units In other words it operates more efficient and will save you money so replacing both your old units will actually benefit you in the long run

Totally agree with Jameson. We had one Coleman fail, replaced with Chill Cube. It was indeed much quieter, worked so well we replaced the other one. With the two Coleman’s when we had working, we still had to add a two hose stand alone unit - yes we had three going in the Arizona heat ( +110° ). 2019 Grand Design Solitude TS380 FL.

Another question. What are your feelings about changing from a ducted system to a non-ducted system? I sometimes feels that I am losing alot of cooling from the ducts through the roof, making it less effeciant. I would think it would not be that hard to do.
