Mounting The Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier CC-255 In An Interesting Way

Updated 01/03/2026 | Published 12/30/2025

Question:

I’m interested in the CC-255 cargo tray. I want to mount something to it but the lip would be in the way. From the pictures, it looks like the tray could be configured upside down. Is this possible?

Hi Adair!

I can't say I have ever been asked this before, but there is no reason you couldn't mount the tray for the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier for A-Frame Trailers # CC-255 upside down. The side mounting plates are identical as are the mounting holes for them, no matter how they are oriented, and the front support can also be adjusted to fit.

Out of immense curiosity, what are you wanting to mount on it?

Hi Lazer. Thanks for the reply. I have a generator box that is about an inch deeper than the tray. But if I can flip the tray, I can bolt my generator box to it. I think I’ll go for it.

@AdairH I mounted the rack in normal fashion per instructions. I strapped a Cummins generator on it for a 12,000 mi. Alaskan trip, no complaints very durable rack. Very pleased with durability.

@AdairH Hey friend... I purchased this item and yes you can flip it. However let me warn you.. The water holes in the tray are design for water to flow normally one way. They punched out the water drains in a downward position making protrusions holes. This may not be a problem since you are flipping the tray, but just know that if flipped, you won't have that smooth table feeling. If not a big deal, then go for it. BTW.... I loaded a 120lbs generator on the tray and traveled over 2000 miles, no problems.

I mounted my generator to the tray in the normal position I just used some unstructured with lock nuts and washers then used blue thread locker on the bolts that went to the bottom of my generator. It was pretty easy and fairly cheap. The tray is awesome made a world of difference i highly recommend this product and etrailer

@TonyP I went one further by taking the stock vibrations pads off and bought from "A". The thicker pad bolted to 90 pound generator no issues. The pads sit inside that lip helping with stability. I do strap down when mobile. And I had room for 5 gallon Jerry can. I use the gas transfer pump from Harbor Freight. Makes fueling a breeze.
