Rear Suspension for a 2023 Toyota Sienna XLE

Updated 01/16/2026 | Published 12/27/2025

Question:

Hi, Im trying to solve ride height issues with my Sienna after installing an Ecohitch. As others have noted it rides low when loaded such that the hitch and especially any rack attached to it can scrape. I have looked at airbags and coil springs as well as more complete suspension upgrades. I want whatever I choose to be one and done, no regrets, no wishing Id gone further later. Specific concerns I want to address: - Understand exactly what is available for my specific build, VIN 5TDYRKECXPS150308, 2023 xle - Consider whether i should just reinforce the rear or if that will actually leave me wanting to make a change in the front too. - understand what happens when an airbag fails while driving. How noticeable is it, how soon would it need to be fixed during a road trip, how likely is failure, can it cause loss of control, etc. - understand ride differences loaded and unloaded. Will rear coil springs feel right and result in an even front/back distribution and road posture regardless of load? - what installer options do I have in the 76086 area? Thank you!

Hey, Alan.

Thanks for sharing your VIN with us! For your 2023 Sienna XLE there are currently two rear suspension support options that are confirmed to fit. One is the Firestone Coil-Rite air helper springs, part # F4155, and the other is a rear coil spring upgrade, part # CSS-1168R. At the moment, we don't carry any complete replacement suspension options, just the enhancement kits.

The Sag that you're experiencing is pretty normal for your van when under a load. These kits will help support and level your van when under a load. The Firestone kit will need air but you can lower the PSI (you always need to keep a minimum of 5 PSI in them at any given time to prevent damage) so you unloaded drive wont affect your day to day drive.

You shouldn't need a front kit unless you are unhappy with the front suspension as it is right now. Adding something to the rear wont affect the front.

Speaking of ride quality, any suspension enhancement will change the unloaded feel at least a little, there’s really no way around that. The coil spring upgrade adds constant support, so unloaded it will feel slightly firmer than stock, but it does a great job of keeping the van level and stable when weight is added, with no adjustments required. The air helper springs give you more flexibility; you can keep air pressure low when unloaded for a near-factory ride, then add pressure when carrying bikes, cargo, or extra passengers to maintain proper ride height and overall posture. When set up correctly, neither option creates an awkward front-to-rear imbalance.

Airbag failure is another common concern. If an air helper spring were to lose pressure while driving, it wouldn’t cause a loss of control or any sudden or dangerous handling change. The suspension would simply revert to behaving like stock. Failures are relatively uncommon when the system is installed correctly and kept within recommended pressure ranges, and even if one did happen during a road trip, it wouldn’t necessarily be an emergency situation so you can continue the drive as normal. You would just want to be self aware that the suspension support isn't there.

If you’re truly looking for a “one and done” solution, it mostly comes down to how much adjustability you want. If you prefer a set-it-and-forget-it approach with no maintenance or tuning, the coil spring upgrade is hard to beat. If you like the idea of having more adjustability for ride height and stiffness, the Firestone air springs offer the most versatility. Either option will dramatically improve rear sag and hitch clearance compared to the factory setup.

We have a great dealer locator on our site and I linked that below for you.

Hope this helps clear up everything for you. If I left anything out let me know in a comment!
