Will The 2.5" Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank EQ90-02-4800 Replace A Reese 54970?

Updated 12/26/2025 | Published 12/24/2025

Question:

I have a Reese 54970 WD trunnion setup for towing my trailer with my F-150 2” receiver. I recently upgraded to a Silverado 2500 with a 2.5” receiver. Based on research, I think I can buy this shank and it will fit on my current 54970 Reese system. I want to check if that was correct before purchasing or if there was a different shank? I don’t want to use a reducer or sleeve.

Hi Jordan!

You are absolutely correct. The Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 2-1/2" Hitch - 8" Rise, 4" Drop # EQ90-02-4800 will work with your Reese weight distribution system, but you will need to adjust it a little due to the different shank design. The bolt spacing is the exact same 1-1/4" (see included pictures), so you will have no issues bolting the head to it.

It also has a little more drop and weight capacity, so I would say it's an upgrade as well! : )

What kind of trailer are you towing?

@JordanW Cool camper! Was there any issues with hooking up the weight distribution system with the propane tanks on the tongue? They can cause troubles some times.

Lazer I used used this on an E2 after switching to a 1 ton truck. E2 and Reese are the same. Make sure you reforge after first time you pull over a 100 miles. Mine had to be re-torqued 2 times before it settled in.
