Question:

Will my older Yakima ski holder clamp onto these bars, or do I need an adapter kit?

Lena, good news - clamp-on Yakima and Thule ski mounts (and other brands) fit the Benton crossbars on the Benton cargo rack # B42FR without any adapters. Since skis are longer, you’ll likely want to mount your ski rack on the left and right crossbars, which slide and run side-to-side across the back of the vehicle. That way your skis sit left-to-right like they would on a normal roof rack and don’t stick straight back toward the liftgate.

The fixed front and rear bars run front-to-back, so they’re better suited for shorter gear or midsized cargo boxes that don’t need as much span.

@Rob Hey there Rob. Yes, snowboard holders like one form Thule will clamp on jut fine! Mount it to the left/right sliding bars so the boards run side-to-side and clear the hatch.
