Question:

How does this TowSmart hitch compare to the Curt hitch for the CR-V? I mostly plan to tow a small boat on weekends.

That’s a great question, Brian. Both are solid Class III options, but the TowSmart 2" hitch # TS67ZR gives you a slight edge in versatility. It’s rated for 4,500 lbs towing and 675 lbs tongue weight, while the comparable Curt hitch # C13397 is typically rated around 3,500/525 lbs. Keep in mind, you'll still be limited by the vehicle's towing capacity which you can find in the owner's manual of your CR-V. The TowSmart also uses a matte black powder coat that hides scuffs and road grime better over time.

Since you’ll be towing, you’ll need the T-One Wiring Harness # 118741 for your lights and the Ball Mount Kit # 989891 to get your trailer level.

Do you know your boat and trailer’s combined weight? I can help make sure you’re under your CR-V’s tow rating.

Thanks, Andrew. My boat and trailer are right around 1,200 lbs loaded. Do I need anything else besides the wiring and ball mount to tow safely?

@Brian At 1,200 lbs, you’re well within your CR-V’s comfort zone, Brian. With the TowSmart # TS67ZR, the T-One Wiring Harness # 118741, and the Ball Mount Kit # 989891, you’ll have everything you need for basic, safe towing. No extra suspension parts or brake controller required; a small boat trailer won't have electric brakes usually, especially a lightweight one like that. Just make sure the trailer lights work after wiring, and double-check your coupler height so the boat rides level. If you want, send me the trailer’s coupler height and I’ll confirm if this ball mount kit is the best option or not.
